My mama moisturizes

I’m a girl of genetic habits. If my mom did it, I do it, and if her mom suggested it, she does whatever it was- you get the picture.

Basically when the women in my family find something we like, we share it among ourselves. After a couple of skeptical product tests, if the item works, the rest of the family stocks up on it for the next five generations.

Which is why when my usual body lotion (Lubriderm $6.99) ran out at home and there were no bottles of it at the local Target, I was stumped. I thought about calling my adventurous little sister to see if she had any suggestions, but I was in a hurry so I bravely ventured down the lotion aisle all by myself.

I remembered a segment on the Today Show about going organic by making little changes, and decided that today was my day to try something new and go organic at the same time. I sniffed around and cracked open a couple of lotion tops until I ended up near the Alba Botanica section. I figured nobody would mind if I tested lotion from a 32 oz. bottle and when I cracked open their Very Emollient Body Lotion Original formula ($14.69) I was immediately in love.

Screw how well I works, I thought- this stuff smells like Hawaii.

It really does. It’s crisp and floral without being overpowering and guess what? It’s a great moisturizer too.

“An exquisitely light, natural body lotion packed with rich botanical emollients to soothe and soften skin while providing 100% daily hydration,” the bottle says.

While I don’t know what emollients are, I do know that it’s silky smooth and when I introduced myself to my coworker’s cousin today he shook my hand and then asked what the heck I had on it that made it so smooth.

Boys don’t normally notice that kind of thing, so I was impressed.

Now, I’m going to have to make a few phone calls. My mom needs to know about this stuff.

[ FYI- Emollients /ɨˈmɒliənts/ are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin (epidermis) softer and more pliable. ]
